I have little respect for the game of politics and even less respect for most of its players yet I also have compassion so I hoped for the best possible outcome when Australian Victorian Minister Tim Holding went missing the other day. I was of course thrilled that he had been found alive and returned to his family.
Today I am a little annoyed with him though. I don’t expect that he should pay for his own rescue- unless he profits from it by way of paid media deals etc but I do expect him to be humble and acknowledge his fault in the incident rather than the arrogance I perceived in a quote I just read discussing his failure to carry the advised Emergency Position-Indicating Radio Beacons (EPIRBS) with him
“I’ve never hiked with an EPIRB before and I’ve been to places that are far more remote and rugged than where I was at Feathertop but – and I have to say I bet if we interviewed 100 hikers going up there in six months’ time we would probably find very few EPIRBs with them – but I think given what I’ve put my family through and Victorians through over the last few days when I hike in the future I’ll have an EPIRB with me”
All this when it was his actions that caused the accedent and his failure to set out fully equiped with the advised tools that caused the delay (and extra cost) in his rescue.
I do not know him personally or even politically but Tim Holding, like the opposition I think you are a ‘Super dill’ – and an unrepentant one at that!
He has apologised for all the concern he has caused, has thanked his supporters and rescuers but he has not made a heart felt apology for being an idiot in his choices, rather he has brushed them off as what everyone else would do. Maybe so, maybe 80% of Australian hikers are also arrogant idiots I don’t know, I don’t know any – but aren’t our leaders(world wide) meant to set a good example to their community?
I am tired of fools running countries – I am tired of people who feel they are above everyone else thinking they have the right to lead other people.
What do YOU think?
