Saying what I think – Azerbaijan bloggers

Wednesday, September 2nd, 2009

I am enjoying this – the freedom I have to express my opinion in this blog.

I have been suprised at and pleased that people have taken the time to comment.

It seems perhaps not every one has that freedom.

According to news I just read at news.bbc.co.uk

Two bloggers from Azerbaijan are facing up to five years in jail after posting a video of a donkey giving a news conference on YouTube.”

(click link above to view the video)

Authorities say they are just investigating a criminal case but the lawyer of Andnan Hajizade and Emin Milli claims the arrests were politically motivated. The two men were held by police on hooliganism charges after an incident at a restaurant after the video was posted.

In the video, the donkey appears to send up government news conferences claimed by critics to be nothing more than propaganda.

I don’t know for a fact who is right or who is wrong as I don’t know all the details, but I side with the bloggers and I am just grateful that I have the freedom to express that fact here.

‘Super dill’ Tim Holding

Wednesday, September 2nd, 2009

I have little respect for the game of politics and even less respect for most of its players yet I also have compassion so I hoped for the best possible outcome when Australian Victorian Minister Tim Holding went missing the other day. I was of course thrilled that he had been found alive and returned to his family.

Today I am a little annoyed with him though. I don’t expect that he should pay for his own rescue- unless he profits from it by way of paid media deals etc but I do expect him to be humble and acknowledge his fault in the incident rather than the arrogance I perceived in a quote I just read discussing his failure to carry the advised Emergency Position-Indicating Radio Beacons (EPIRBS) with him

“I’ve never hiked with an EPIRB before and I’ve been to places that are far more remote and rugged than where I was at Feathertop but – and I have to say I bet if we interviewed 100 hikers going up there in six months’ time we would probably find very few EPIRBs with them – but I think given what I’ve put my family through and Victorians through over the last few days when I hike in the future I’ll have an EPIRB with me”

All this when it was his actions that caused the accedent and his failure to set out fully equiped with the advised tools that caused the delay (and extra cost) in his rescue.

I do not know him personally or even politically but Tim Holding, like the opposition I think you are a ‘Super dill’ – and an unrepentant one at that!
He has apologised for all the concern he has caused, has thanked his supporters and rescuers but he has not made a heart felt apology for being an idiot in his choices, rather he has brushed them off as what everyone else would do. Maybe so, maybe 80% of Australian hikers are also arrogant idiots I don’t know, I don’t know any – but aren’t our leaders(world wide) meant to set a good example to their community?

I am tired of fools running countries – I am tired of people who feel they are above everyone else thinking they have the right to lead other people.

She is ugly on the inside – bigoted beauty queen

Tuesday, September 1st, 2009

wedding1According to Yahoo news :

“LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – Former Miss California USA Carrie Prejean has sued beauty pageant organizers claiming she was wrongfully fired for saying marriage should be only between a man and a woman.”

The article goes on to say that pageant organizers are claiming the firing was for her not meeting her obligations but personally I would prefer it if they came out and agreed it was for her pathetic views.

It’s 2009 for goodness sake – do we really still hold out these outdated views thatĀ  the commitment of marriage is only for heterosexual couples?

If the church wont accept it so be it – but a legal (non church) marriage of two consentingĀ  adult partners who are in love and wish to make a commitment is something that everyone should be granted.

I say booooo! to Carrie Prejean – beauty is as much about spirit as looks and sweetheart your narrow minded views make you ugly!!!!!

Marriage for same sex couples – I think YES !

A Miracle – welcome home Jaycee!

Friday, August 28th, 2009

Her step dad calls it “a miracle” and after she had been missing for 18 years I have to agree. The fact that Jaycee Lee Dugard was last seen being snatched and bundled into a car, his statement “After 18 years you do give up hope. I mean, this is a miracle – 18 years. When was the last time you heard of somebody recovering somebody after 18 years?” must give some comfort to the parents of another stolen little girl… Madeleine McCann.

As a mother I do not want to comprehend the pain both families must have suffered (or still suffering in Maddies case) I can not imagine the grief, the helplessness the complete agony of having a child go missing, the knowlege that your vulnerable angle is at the mercy of what ever animal has her.

Both families have had suspicion cast their way when both were desperate to have their child returned – can you imagine the pain and frustration in that – not so much that people think it, I think in that state you would care little for random opinion, but the fact that the police are wasting time with accusation when they could be searching.

But what of those random strangers that do cast blame – what gives us the right based on media reports (and we all know how completely factual they are 100% of the time right?) to decide someones guilt or innocence?
But we do.

I know I have cast judgment without knowing the full story and been wrong – Have YOU?
